[9] Spiritual TRANSFORMATION

3 Types of prayer
Wed 2 May 2018
Engaging the Scriptures
During this week we had been engaging the scriptures, asking God what he was saying about the HoP. We shared our findings in groups of four and when each group summarised back to whole it was evident there were common themes God had been speaking about. It was very powerful, inspiring and envisioning. Click here to read it all... (in some places we didn't get the notes right - please look for your contribution and send us updates if necessary)
Praying for Discernment
We are looking at how important prayer is for discernement and types of prayer that help us discern God's will. Ruth Hayley Barton says...
“Discernment takes place in the context of friendship with God as it is cultivated through prayer.”
“Prayer encompasses all the ways we communicate and commune with God. The further we travel on the spiritual journey, the more we discover that all of life is prayer and holds the potential for deepening our intimacy with God.”
What do you think - can we think of “all of life” being prayer?
Three people taught about the three different types of prayer and led us in an activity:
Prayer of Quiet Trust based on Ps 131, stilling ourselves like a child in its mother's arms, with implicit trust in God. Follow link for more...
Prayer for Indifference to anything but God's will. Follow link for more....
Prayer for Wisdom - asking God to give us His wisdom, as opposed to the world's wisdom which can be conflicting at times. Prayer of quiet trust and prayer for indifference are helpful before this one, because sometimes our internal busyness and our own agendas can get in the way. IT is especially important when we are seeking God as a group.
We will be reflecting on these types of prayer this week, and thinking about the question, can all of my life be prayer?
